My imaginary friends are fighting…

Lately it seems that much of my life revolves around conflict and politics and maneuvering. Our little band of online buddies has been going through some growing pains. The game has changed and everyone is in a tizzy determining his new place in the world. Instead of one big, happy family that does everything together, we have been divided into teams. Suddenly it is high school all over again. Varsity, JV and Freshman squads and all the squabbling that comes along with it. Except that this is a game that we pay to play in our free time and we are supposed to be grown-ups! It’s amazing, really, how quickly we become kids on the playground again – calling names, pointing fingers, yelling about cooties…
The exciting part is that I am finally one of the cool kids. Obviously, we’re all complete nerds, but still. I have played online with these people for over a year now, and there aren’t very many of them that I know terribly well, but all of the guys on my team are awesome (and all guys, sadly. no girls to commiserate with over the silliness of boys). Several of them know each other outside of the game, and the rest have played together for a long time, so they are chatty. And I spend most of the evening laughing, which has been a welcome change amidst all the “drama” and hand-wringing going on around me these days.
